International Conference on Mathematical Modeling in Physical Sciences

Employing a model which has been developed in the projects FLOWS and BiNe and has been presented on the International Conference on Mathematical Modeling in Physical Sciences, Sept. 3rd to 7th in Budapest, the setup of a double-wall chimney with fresh air entering through the annular gap has been examined. Already the one-dimensional model, based on mass and energy balances for a discretized cylinder, often yields good agreement with experimental data, but sometimes discrepancies are large. In particular it turns out that for commercially available chimneys, leakage is not negligible and inclusion of leak air in the calculation is crucial for reproduction of the experimental data.
