National Stakeholder Workshop of IEA Bioenergy Task 34 in Wieselburg
From 30 June to 2 July 2026, the annual Task Meeting of IEA Bioenergy Task 34 (DTL – Direct Thermochemical Liquefaction) was held at BEST – Bioenergy and Sustainable Technologies GmbH in Wieselburg. A highlight was the National Stakeholder Workshop on 1 July 2026, organised by the Austrian National Delegates Manuel Schwabl and Elisabeth Wopienka. Experts from Austria, the Czech Republic, Italy, and the international Task 34 network discussed key topics in DTL technology: the conversion of regional waste streams (e.g., agricultural residues, sewage sludge) into bio-oils, biochar, and syngas; innovative biochar applications (agriculture, steel industry); novel reactor concepts; and scaling strategies for industrial deployment. A visit to BEST’s GreenCarbon Lab provided practical insights into pyrolysis and gasification technologies from laboratory to pilot scale. The workshop underscored the importance of international collaboration for the circular carbon economy. Details on the presentations can be found at: IEA Bioenergy Task 34 Workshop Österreich
