On 29 June, BEST was represented with a stand at the science event HEURIKA in Mistelbach. The focus was on the citizen-science project IMPETUS, which addresses the question of how mobility in Lower Austria can become more sustainable. Participating as representatives of the project team were Katharina Zauner (BEST) and Roman Klementschitz (BOKU).

In total, over 1,300 pupils attended the event in the morning. For them, an interactive simulation game was prepared, in which they playfully engaged with the question of how mobility in cities can be made more sustainable.

In the game, the pupils discussed – either together with Roman and Kathi or among themselves – which changes in a fictional city could lead to greater sustainability. To this end, they were given various mobility solutions to choose from, including bus stops, electric cars, pedestrian crossings, cycle paths and pedestrian zones. These could be freely placed in the city, allowing them to contribute their own ideas for a sustainable mobility transition.

In the afternoon, the programme was aimed at families and all visitors interested in research. In addition to the simulation game, the web app MyTraces was presented, with which citizen scientists can record their mobility data as part of the IMPETUS project.
