Biochemical Technologies
Our work on biotechnological conversion follows the principle of cascading utilization. We develop biotechnological processes for the conversion of biomass, residues and CO2 to various products (gaseous or liquid energy carriers, basic chemicals, higher value products for the chemical industry, biofertilizers).
The work includes process scale-up, downstream processing of intermediate and final products, and microbiological process optimization. Advantages of biotechnological processes are that they take place at low temperature and low pressure, and that microorganisms can perform complex syntheses in one step.
Our application-specific focus areas are: Biogas technology, microalgae biotechnology, industrial and agricultural residue utilization, CO2-based gas fermentations, and wastewater technology.
