In the field of system analysis, BEST works on the sustainable and efficient utilisation and application of biofuels.
We develop energy concepts at the local, regional and company level, focusing on demand-driven studies regarding energy, economic and ecological issues.
A crucial element of our process development is the extension of biofuel resources to raw materials such as maize cob, straw and wood. Above all, this element consists of the approach to convert ligno-cellulosic (wooden) resources to bio-ethanol, which has been proved only in a number of testing facilities worldwide. The target of BEST is the demonstration of those plants in economic and permanent operation.
In context of the forest based bio-refineries, we also aim at the co-production of ethanol and raw materials for the chemical industry such as polymers.
